Terms of use

Draft for the test version, October 2026. By using the TrailRecon Field Guide app or this website, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use them.

What the Field Guide is

The Field Guide is narrated background and storytelling about off-road regions: the land, wildlife, history, trails and towns. It is not a navigation app, a route plan, a trail-difficulty rating or safety training. It doesn't tell you where you are on a trail or whether a road is open.

Your trip is your responsibility

Accuracy

We research every chapter and check facts against official and published sources, but places change and mistakes happen. The audio and text are provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose. If you hear something wrong, use Send feedback in the app and we'll look at it.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, TrailRecon and its owners, contributors and partners are not liable for any injury, loss, damage, citation or cost arising from your travel, your use of the Field Guide, or your reliance on anything in it. Where the law doesn't allow a full exclusion, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the Field Guide, if anything.

Who owns what

AI voice

Brad Kowitz writes and researches the Field Guide. The narration is Brad's own voice, produced with AI voice technology so we can cover more regions. Don't use the recordings to imitate his voice.

Other services

The Trails tab links to onX Offroad, which is a separate company with its own terms. TrailRecon isn't responsible for third-party services. Some links may be affiliate links, and TrailRecon may earn a commission.

Feedback

If you send feedback, you let us use it to fix and improve the Field Guide, without owing you anything for it. See the privacy page for what we store.

Changes

The Field Guide is free during testing. We may add pricing later, change or remove regions and features, or end the test. We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use the Field Guide means you accept the update.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
